We are seeking an experienced Senior QA Test Engineer to join a banking client in Madrid, Spain. This role involves ensuring quality assurance across the full software development lifecycle in a regulated banking environment. The position requires strong ownership of QA activities, collaboration across multiple teams and systems, and a structured, audit-ready approach to testing.
Project Overview
You will join a large-scale banking program organized in a SAFe/Agile setup, working within a dedicated Scrum team responsible for a specific application or module that interacts with many other banking systems. The role combines strong manual and end-to-end testing expertise with a gradual shift toward test automation. You will collaborate closely with developers, product owners, business stakeholders, and other teams to ensure high-quality, reliable releases in a complex, integrated environment.
Responsibilities
- Act as a senior QA within an agile Scrum team, taking end-to-end ownership of quality for your module/application
- Manage and coordinate QA activities across the full SDLC (refinement, design, testing, release, post-release validation)
- Design, execute, and maintain test cases based on business requirements and acceptance criteria
- Perform functional, regression, exploratory, and end-to-end testing across integrated systems
- Define and maintain a risk-based testing strategy and prioritize testing accordingly
- Coordinate testing across teams to ensure complete end-to-end business process coverage
- Create and manage test data and ensure environments are prepared for testing
- Produce audit-ready documentation (logs, screenshots, traceability, evidence) required in a regulated banking environment
- Conduct REST API testing including validation of requests, responses, and data consistency
- Support and drive business testing and obtain business sign-off for releases when required
- Collaborate closely with developers, business stakeholders, Scrum Master, and external partners
- Own defect management, triage, root cause analysis, and regression processes
- Contribute to automation strategy and gradually automate suitable test cases
- Participate in production validation and smoke testing after release
Technology & Tools
- Test management: Jira + Xray (or similar)
- API testing: REST APIs (e.g., Postman)
- Automation ( planned):
- Playwright (preferred direction)
- Tosca (for non-web applications)
- Selenium or similar frameworks (nice to have)
- Version control: Git
- CI/CD exposure is an advantage
- Basic SQL knowledge is beneficial
Required Profile
- Several years of experience as a QA Engineer in complex enterprise environments
- Strong experience in manual and end-to-end testing
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum or SAFe environments
- Proven ability to take ownership of QA activities within a team
- Experience testing integrated systems and complex business processes
- Hands-on experience with REST API testing
- Experience with test management tools (Jira/Xray or similar)
- Understanding of automation testing and ability to contribute to automation strategy
- Strong risk-based testing and test design skills
- Experience in regulated environments (banking/finance) is a strong advantage
- Ability to collaborate with business stakeholders and coordinate business testing

Qualifications & Soft Skills
- Very good English skills (C1+)
- Degree in IT or equivalent practical experience
- ISTQB or similar certification is a plus
