Data Engineer (MS SQL Server / T-SQL)

Position Description

• We are looking for a Data Engineer to support data-centric activities for a client in the financial services and banking domain.
• You will contribute to database design, data flows, analysis, and the development of data platforms for advanced analytics and data processing.
• This position is remote; project specifications will be presented during the interview process.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse data stored in business databases.
• Develop and maintain SQL code.
• Understand business requirements; build and tune prototypes.
• Prototype and develop data transformations and analytical calculations in a data warehouse and data marts.
• Ensure proper data governance and data quality.
• Test and validate data transformations and data verification to ensure accuracy.
• Provide support to the department for data-centric needs.
• Apply best practices and keep up with industry trends.
• Promote new and innovative data engineering strategies.
• Drive departmental performance to improve data governance across the business, supporting informed decision-making.
• Perform activities contributing to overall business performance improvement.

Requirements

• Good understanding of financial services and banking to interpret business requirements and propose solutions.
• Knowledge of databases and data structures.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to clarify business requirements.
• Proficiency in MS SQL Server development (T-SQL):
  • Design, build, and maintain operational and ETL pipelines.
  • Tune query performance.
  • Experience with CLR Integration is an advantage.
  • Experience with Azure data tech stack is an advantage.
• Good self-management and ability to meet agreed sprint goals based on prioritisation discussed with the delivery lead.
• Fluent English, both written and verbal.
