General Description
We are seeking a Senior Backend Developer to build and operate production-grade Java services for a fintech company.
Backend design and delivery are at the core of the role. You will work in a cross-functional Scrum team that owns its product end to end. The position suits a T-shaped engineer who is willing to grow into DevOps topics around their own services; existing DevOps experience is welcome. AI-assisted development is part of the day-to-day way of working.
What will you be doing?
- Design, build and operate backend services and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
- Own services throughout their full lifecycle, including design, delivery, deployment and operation.
- Take on smaller DevOps tasks around the team's services, including pipelines, infrastructure as code and monitoring.
- Participate in incident and problem management.
- Use AI tooling effectively throughout the day-to-day software development lifecycle.
Requirements
Required
- Java 17 or newer and Spring Boot 3.x, with a solid foundation in object-oriented programming and design.
- Experience with microservices, including clean service boundaries, inter-service contracts and resilience patterns.
- Experience building REST APIs documented with OpenAPI, using OAuth 2.0 and JWT.
- Knowledge of relational databases and SQL, as well as JPA, Hibernate and Liquibase migrations.
- Experience with integration and component testing, for example with Testcontainers.
- Experience with Maven, Git, Docker and GitLab CI pipelines.
- Experience running your own services on AWS.
- A T-shaped profile and willingness to learn and take on DevOps topics.
- Experience with Agile software development.
Nice to have
- Infrastructure as code with Terraform on AWS.
- In-depth AWS knowledge, including containers, Lambda, secrets, storage and networking.
- Production observability, including logging, metrics, tracing and dashboards.
- Scripting with Bash or Python.
- Linux administration and GitLab administration.
- An AWS certification, such as AWS Developer or AWS CloudOps Engineer.
- Experience with SOAP web services, WebFlux and reactive Spring.
- Experience with NoSQL technologies such as DynamoDB and S3.
- Experience integrating AI features into production applications.
